Four Victims Wounded at Howe Community Park Sacramento — Unauthorized Gathering Descends into Chaos
Late Saturday evening, a large unauthorized party of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Park in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood became the scene of a shooting when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots were fired as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were in the process of removing people from the park.
How It Unfolded
Around 6:30 in the evening, the Sacramento County Sheriff got reports about individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons at Howe Community Park in Sacramento. A follow-up call reported a potential physical confrontation and subjects running away.
An airship was utilized and searched the park but could not find any active disturbance.
Despite this, multiple hundreds of people had gathered at the park for what law enforcement classified as an unlawful gathering. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies formed a perimeter around the park, switched on their vehicle lights, and spent approximately 15 minutes instructing attendees to vacate the area over loudspeakers.
While law enforcement cleared the gathering, 20 to 25 gunshots were discharged — sending the crowd scattering in every direction.
The Victims
Four gunshot victims — a woman and three men, ranging in age through their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. The Investigation Scene
The shooting took place along the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The nearby Home Depot was briefly placed on lockdown. Additional spent casings were identified on Cottage Way, with bullet impacts found in the wrought iron fencing bordering the Home Depot store — confirming rounds fired in a southerly direction from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. Over scanner traffic, it was confirmed that a vehicle connected to the shooting — identified as a Kia — was stopped in the Solano County area with four detainees. Sacramento County Sheriff's units were dispatched to retrieve the detainees and transport them back to Sacramento County. Surveillance footage confirmed two shooters were involved.
